SAN DIEGO, Sept. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — With less than one week remaining until golfers take to the course, the Guardian Classic Charity Golf Tournament has announced Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) as an official sponsor of the September 28, 2026 event at Maderas Golf Club in Poway, California. The announcement brings together two mission-driven nonprofit organizations with a shared commitment to supporting those who have sacrificed in service to others — and adds new momentum to a rapidly approaching day dedicated to giving back to active-duty, veterans, first responders and their families.
Hosted by the Guardian Initiative, in association Origin Modern Health, along with their non-profit Origin Vitae Network, the Guardian Classic returns to Maderas Golf Club for its second annual tournament with a mission that extends far beyond the golf course. The event is designed to unite businesses, community leaders, golfers, active-duty, veterans, first responders, donors and supporters around a common purpose: honoring local heroes while helping provide meaningful resources and care to those who have served their communities and country.
The addition of Wounded Warrior Project as an official sponsor represents a natural alignment of missions.
Wounded Warrior Project is a national veterans service organization dedicated to improving the total well-being of post-9/11 wounded, ill and injured veterans, service members and their families. Its mission is to “honor and empower wounded warriors,” with programs and services supporting mental, physical, emotional and financial wellness.
That commitment closely aligns with the purpose behind the Guardian Initiative and the 2nd annual Guardian Classic Tournament: bringing people together to recognize service, strengthen community support and help make a tangible difference in the lives of heroes and their families.
“I know several Warriors who are passionate about golf, and they might even go as far as to say it’s their therapy,” says Carol Flynn, outreach specialist with Wounded Warrior Project. “There’s just something about being outside, slowing down, enjoying the game and connecting with others. Especially with September being Suicide Prevention Month, that connection is so important. The Guardian Classic gives Warriors the opportunity to come together, build relationships and know that they’re not alone.”
With Wounded Warrior Project officially sponsoring the event, the Guardian Classic’s impact reaches beyond San Diego. The collaboration underscores how national and local non-profit efforts can come together around a shared commitment to service — connecting a San Diego community event with a nationwide mission of supporting America’s wounded veterans and their families.
WWP’s work is especially rooted in collaboration. The organization identifies expanding impact through collaboration with non-profit, for-profit and government organizations as one of its priorities, alongside serving warriors and their families.

Final Call for Golfers: Only a Handful of Spots Remain
With the Guardian Classic taking place Monday, September 28, time is quickly running out to participate.
Only a handful of player registration spots remain, making the final days before the tournament the last opportunity for golfers to secure their place in this year’s event. Those who do not golf can also partake in this event by purchasing a dinner-only ticket to help support the cause.
The tournament will once again be held at Maderas Golf Club, located at 17750 Old Coach Road in Poway. The acclaimed course, voted in the top 100 courses in the U.S., is designed by Johnny Miller and Robert Muir Graves and features dramatic elevation changes, natural terrain and pristine playing conditions. Maderas regularly hosts charity tournaments and group golf outings, making it an ideal setting for a day centered around golf, community and giving back.
Organizers are encouraging anyone who has been considering playing to register immediately rather than risk missing the opportunity.
It’s Not Too Late to Donate or Become a Sponsor
The final countdown is also an urgent call to local/regional/national businesses, organizations and individuals who want to support the cause.
It is not too late to donate!
With only days remaining before the Guardian Classic, additional sponsors and donors are still encouraged to step forward. Whether through corporate support, direct donations or other contributions, every final show of support helps strengthen the mission behind the event and demonstrates to active-duty, veterans, first responders and their families that their sacrifices have not been forgotten.
For businesses, the tournament also provides an opportunity to stand alongside respected organizations and community leaders while demonstrating a meaningful commitment to those who serve.
Organizers hope Wounded Warrior Project joining the Guardian Classic as an official sponsor will inspire additional companies, organizations and individuals to answer that call before September 28.
“Building a fund to support our service members and front line workers is more than just providing real health solutions, it’s about the family unit.” says Dr. Vivek Soham, founder of the Guardian Initiative. “Wounded Warrior Project is no small partnership to achieve and we are honored to have them contribute to the hard work Origin Vitae Network has put in. Having an organization like WWP aligning with our values of helping our local heroes is vital, as we are always interested in having more connections/donations to help build a stronger community.”
The message entering the final days before the tournament is simple: there is still time to make a difference.
Whether that means claiming one of the remaining player spots, becoming a last-minute sponsor, making a donation or helping spread the word, the Guardian Classic offers the San Diego community an opportunity to rally around the people who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving others.
The collaboration between the Guardian Initiative and Wounded Warrior Project demonstrates what can happen when organizations united by service come together for a common cause. For the active-duty, veterans, first responders and families the event seeks to support, the impact can extend well beyond a single day on the golf course.
