Virtual Vehicle, the open platform that connects commercial vehicles, drivers, and software, today announced the launch of Virtual Vehicle OS (VVOS), the first operating system purpose-built for commercial vehicles, on factory-installed in-dash displays across Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Freightliner trucks. Developed for direct integration with vehicle manufacturers, VVOS creates a common software environment for applications, vehicle data, cameras, sensors, connected devices and AI capabilities from the moment a truck leaves the factory.

Now in pre-series release with leading North American fleets, VVOS transforms commercial vehicles from a collection of siloed aftermarket systems into a single intelligent, connected and configurable ecosystem. The platform establishes a new category of commercial fleet technology: a factory-integrated operating system designed to evolve with the vehicle over its lifetime.

“For decades, commercial vehicles have relied on fragmented systems that fail to seamlessly connect the vehicle, driver, fleet and broader ecosystem. VVOS changes that,” said Don Son, GM, Virtual Vehicle. “With VVOS, we are creating a unified foundation that enables OEMs to deliver more intelligent vehicle experiences, supports fleets across their operations and provides TSP partners and developers with a scalable platform to build on.”

What VVOS Delivers

  • For Fleets: A single platform to manage and deploy a pre-integrated marketplace of connected apps across OEM in-dash displays and aftermarket tablets, all running on a robust in-vehicle network of factory-installed sensors, cameras, speakers, and microphones.

  • For OEMs: Turnkey onboard and offboard connectivity and human-machine interface (HMI) infrastructure, built to scale for every type of fleet and add value through software over the life of the truck.

  • For Drivers: A best-in-class experience on the latest displays and in-vehicle technology, to help drivers do their job more effectively and safely across every vehicle they operate.

  • For Software Developers: Supercharged development with massive distribution to fleets of all sizes, built on brand-agnostic developer tools that remove the complexity of building for each truck brand.

“We expect trucks to deliver more value every year they’re on the road, not less. With VVOS factory-installed on the in-dash displays, this means we get a connected, configurable experience the day we take delivery, and one that keeps improving through software over the life of the vehicle. From what we’ve experienced during testing so far, VVOS is a game changer for fleets,” said Eric Downing, COO, Werner Enterprises.

Availability

Commercial availability begins in early 2027 on factory-installed in-dash HMI displays in Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Freightliner trucks, with additional OEM integrations to follow.

VVOS also runs on aftermarket displays from Samsung and other select Android devices, using OEM-native connectivity on most 2020 and newer Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, and International trucks.
