Railroads and utilities across the Western United States have established annual vegetation-management and wildfire mitigation budgets that are, conservatively, over $700 million. The market is also increasingly recognizing that environmental impact, worker safety and prevention need to be considered alongside fire-retardant performance, and CitroTech is well positioned to lead that transition.

Many of CitroTech’s certified application partners, which now comprise over 30 organizations across portions of the United States and Canada, previously relied on phosphate-based products. They are now adopting CitroTech’s technology to better support the health and safety of workers, treated communities and the environment. Rather than relying on legacy chemistries, these partners can use CitroTech’s long-term fire inhibitor solutions for preventive applications designed to reduce fire risk before ignition.

CitroTech produces the only long-term fire retardant recognized under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Choice program. One recent piece of research found detectable levels of arsenic, cadmium, chromium and/or lead across a lineup of long-term fire retardant products. CitroTech was the only solution where none of the four heavy metals were detected. The results point to an urgent need for transparency, more independent analysis, and stronger science-based standards across the industry.
